"NPCs that do allow you to engage in conversation are a diverse bunch. Graphically, there are many that do repeat themselves, but the dialog and behavior from each is so unique that they never feel clumsy or generic. And really, as much as this game excels in other areas, dialog is where The Witcher shines brightest... The characters that inhabit this game are eminently believable, precisely because they talk like you’d expect them to. For every shining knight who speaks in flowery language, there’s a thug dropping f-bombs and telling you to “piss off.”"

"Everything shows that this game has been done with love." (…) "The passion for the story makes it and the characters feel alive and interesting. They grab you from the beginning. The game deserves diploma for the best script since Planescape: Torment."

"While just about every RPG out there has lots of dialog, The Witcher is unique in that the dialog becomes one of the more compelling reasons to play. Yes, the combat is good, and your character does gain new tactical options and cool abilities as he improves, although the lack of new gear will turn off those for fans of games like Diablo. The world design is realistic but interesting and the enemies you fight are generally worthy opponents, but it's the story of Geralt and how he affects his world that will keep you playing. Some technical problems plague the experience, but overall I think you will have a hard time finding a better fleshed-out story in any game released in 2007"

"A final (important) note on this excellent game, is the fact that it attempts to tell a good story, a tale of epic adventure, betrayal and action – and succeeds, very well! Something which games haven’t really done for quite a while now, favouring gameplay mechanics over story (and even if they do favour story – they tend to then mess up the gameplay). The story is in no way derived, convoluted, thin on the ground or shallow!"
